Chicken Bone Broth

Chicken soup is good for your body and soul! Growing up on a farm bone broth was a by product of using the whole part of a chicken and not wasting anything. We made yummy soups and delicious meals by cooking this way.

Bone broth is rich in minerals that support the immune system and contains healing compounds like collagen, glutamine, glycine and proline. The broth contain minerals in forms that your body can easily absorb: calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, sulphur and others. They contain chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine, the compounds that help to reduce inflammation, arthritis and joint pain.

The collagen in bone broth heals your gut lining and reduces intestinal inflammation. In addition, collagen supports healthy skin. Also, the glycine in bone broth can detoxify your cells from chemicals and improve brain function.

So many health benefits from such a yummy meal!

Here’s my recipe.

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 pounds whole organic chicken
  • 3 carrots, chopped
  • 3 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 medium onions, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, peel on and smashed
  • 1 teaspoon Himalayan salt
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 5-6 sprigs parsley
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 3-5 drops each of the following: Thyme, Marjoram, Oregano Vitality Oils
  • 2 tablespoons of pure apple cider vinegar
  • cold water

DIRECTIONS

Place all ingredients in a 10 quart capacity instant-pot (use crock pot setting) or crock-pot.

Add in water to fill line.

Simmer for 24-48 hours, skimming fat occasionally. If you need to speed up the cooking process you can cook it for 4-6 hours you just won’t get as much health benefit from cooking longer.

Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Strain the bones and skin out. Let soup stock cool to room temperature add essential oils, cover and enjoy! We eat this as a soup with our favorite bread or biscuit recipes.

Use within a week or freeze up to 3 months.
